About me
Bud Ratliff serves as President of The Solarity Group, which provides training and consulting on project management for the Kentuckiana region (www.solarity.com). An author of several books for Microsoft Press, Bud is also passionate about making a difference in his community, and is co-founder of the Lexington Microsoft Users Group (www.lexmug.com), serves as President of the Bluegrass PMI Chapter board, was a Steering Committee member for the Kentucky International Association of Microsoft Certified Partners (IAMCP) chapter, is a Leadership Lexington alumni and often speaks in the community about project management, technology and business.

He has an extensive background as a Systems Engineer and trainer, working with local customers such as Toyota and Brown-Forman. His training and experience as a Project Manager gives him the unique ability to understand the processes and technology required to implement successful projects. Bud has delivered many Project Management practitioner and certification classes, and trained Microsoft Partners across the United States, Mexico, and Brazil on how to envision, plan, implement, and manage Enterprise Project Management solutions.

For his work in helping the Project Management community, Microsoft selected Bud as one of their Most Valuable Professionals in Microsoft Project from 2007-2010.

Bud holds the highest systems engineer (MCSE) and training (MCT) certifications from Microsoft, the Project+ certification from CompTIA, and earned the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential from the Project Management Institute

PMI PDUs: Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Changing soon

I received a note from PMI yesterday reminding me that the way in which PMI will classify its ongoing education requirements. PMI requires that PMP credential holders maintain 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every three years. Those PDUs can be earned through formal classes, experience, or through self-study. Wall Street Journal: More Companies Require Certifications

The Wall Street Journal reports that more companies in different industries are using test-based certifications as a way to select or promote their staff. Good news for Project Management Professionals (PMP), Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists (MCTS), or other certified folks.

Project Manager for Clinical Trials

A medical device company is seeking a project manager (PM) to prepare for and conduct a clinical trial of a new cancer therapy device in a start-up setting. Actually, both. I would like an introductory course but I also want to pursue certification in Scrum Master. I see that becoming more and more relevant in PM work.
